Mindfulness, Inspiration and Creativity
MINDFULNESS OF BREATH MEDITATION

The word inspiration comes from the latin “inspirare” – to breathe in spirit. Today, we revisit the breath meditation and as you once again bring mindfulness to the breath, take a moment to bring attention to what inspires you.
Reconnect with inspiration this week. Allow space for creativity to flow.
WHAT IS ONE SMALL THING YOU COULD DO TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL MORE ALIVE AND INSPIRED TODAY?
Meditating with a goal in mind, like “I’m going to meditate so I can be more creative” is not going to work. As soon as we attach a desired outcome to meditating we move into a space of striving, which will inevitably suffocate creativity. However, meditation creates space for the unexpected and a by-product of that is enhanced creativity.
Creating space for creativity to flow enhances so many areas of our lives. Whether creating unique art, coming up with innovative ideas at work, finding novel ways to re-inspire long term relationships, parenting, combining previously unrelated thoughts to create something original or stumbling upon new ideas that can take you on unexpected life adventures.
Inspiration is very polite.
She knocks softly and then goes away,
if we don’t answer the door.

#MINDFUL ACTION – MINDFUL WRITING EXERCISE
Today we are going to explore how mindfulness can support greater creativity through a reflective writing exercise.
Do the mindfulness of breath practice above and then sit for 10 minutes and reflect on the questions below in stream of consciousness, meaning you keep the pen flowing and don’t stop. You may have contemplated these questions before but actually do this exercise again once you have done your meditation.
Set a timer for 15 minutes and make the alarm go off every 3 minutes.
(3 min) The last time I felt deeply joyful was when I.…(describe the situation, memory, describe the details of sound, sight, smell, touch, taste)
(3 min) What I’m most grateful for in my life is…
(3 min) Something I really appreciate about myself is…
(3 min) If I was living completely aligned with what matters most to me I would be…
(3 min) If I had no fear I would…
