Elissa Epel, Ph.D, is a Professor at University of California, San Francisco. She studies how chronic stress can impact biological ageing (such as the telomere/telomerase system) throughout the lifespan, pregnancy, and how meditation interventions may buffer stress effects and promote psychological and physiological thriving.  She also studies stress, food addiction, and the opioid system, and whether self-regulation interventions and mindful eating can improve metabolic health. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine. Epel wrote The Telomere Effect: A revolutionary approach to living younger, longer with Nobel Prize winner Dr Elizabeth Blackburn, a New York Times best seller.
